The Power of the Gospel

The power of the Gospel is an awesome thing, surely the greatest power we know of.  It is greater than that of the atom, greater than the combined power of all nations of the globe; there is no greater power on this earth.

Nations can impose their power through the force of arms; this results in destruction and death.  When the power of the atom is released, it can be the most destructive of tools and it can also be used to generate electricity, but it only changes lives by destroying them.

The power of the Gospel is quite different, for the power of the Gospel is that it builds people up.  It changes lives for better, it brings about life where there was no life; it is the entrance to eternal life.  The power of the Gospel is that when enough people are changed by it in a locality, everything about that locality changes for the better.  It can take a person who is at the end of their rope and empower that person to greatness.  Paul summed it up so well…

Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation —  if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

(Colossians 1:21-23)

It is an awesome thing to be an Ambassador of the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
