Good morning from Amerida’s Heartland.
What exactly is “a man about town”? If you ask popular culture, you might picture someone smooth, stylish, effortlessly cool, and completely dialed into whatever trends are running hot this week. It’s an image built entirely on external polish, social standing, and trying to fit the mold of what the world finds impressive.
If we aren’t careful, we can spend a lot of energy trying to project that kind of cultural image, worrying endlessly about what people think of us or whether we measure up to society’s shifting standards.
Scripture, however, invites us to look through an entirely different frame of reference:
“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Psalm 23:5-6
What attributes might a truly godly man or woman possess? Humility, faith, kindness, and genuine consideration for others. When we trade our old cultural scorecards for the grace and class that come from walking with God, something remarkable happens. We develop a quiet confidence and an authentic appeal that resonates with people who don’t yet know Christ.
We aren’t called to be phonies or religious show-offs; we are simply called to behave with the grace and integrity that Scripture encourages. As ambassadors for Christ, we are His representatives in this everyday world—and we can do a better job of acting like it.
Are you trying to impress the culture around you today, or are you living as a quiet, graceful representative of Christ’s love?
