We live in a culture that loves scorecards. People measure a good life by what’s in their savings account, the title on their office door, or how smoothly their plans come together. Sadly, when those things fluctuate or fall short, joy is usually the first casualty.
Jesus pointed His followers toward a completely different kind of treasure—one that inflation can’t touch and moth and rust can’t destroy.
The writer of Hebrews reminded us of the ultimate source of enduring joy:
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2
Think about that. Jesus looked past the agony of the cross straight to the joy set before Him—the joy of redeeming us, bringing us home, and restoring our relationship with the Father.
When our daily joy is tied up in temporary comforts, we ride an endless roller coaster. But when our joy is anchored in what Christ accomplished and the eternal home waiting for us, the daily hassles of life shrink down to their proper size. We can walk through this world with a light step, a grateful heart, and a genuine joy that nothing in this life can take away.
What temporary worry can you trade today for the deep, unshakeable joy of what Christ has already secured for you?
