It is easy to get bogged down by the sheer volume of noise, division, and anxiety in the world around us. People argue over politics, bicker over doctrinal fine print, and get defensive about every little slight.
Paul urged the early believers—and reminds us today—to wake up and change our posture:
“The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime… Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.”
Romans 13:12-14
When you clothe yourself in Christ, the petty arguments and endless turf wars lose their grip on you. Must we continue fighting among ourselves over every little difference of opinion? Is being “right” in an argument really more important than building up the Body of Christ?
Our calling is far too serious—and our time on this earth is far too short—to waste on self-glorifying squabbles. When we put on the armor of light and walk as Christ’s ambassadors, our focus shifts naturally from tearing things down to building others up in His love.
Are you caught up in any petty arguments or frustrations today that you can lay down by clothing yourself in the patience of Christ?
