The Only Calling That Changes Eternity

We live in a culture that loves to hustle. People run themselves ragged chasing success, status, entertainment, and security, often treating life like a frantic sprint with no finish line.

Back in the 1980s, I knew a fellow who believed “living life” meant hanging out in bars every night. To him, that was what freedom looked like. But when you chase the fleeting thrills of this world, you eventually discover that empty cisterns leave you just as thirsty as before.

Following Jesus offers a completely different rhythm—and an eternal purpose:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”

Hebrews 12:1-2

As ambassadors for Christ, we aren’t just passing time or trying to keep our heads above water. We are running a race marked out by the Master.

When we throw off the heavy baggage of sin, distraction, and self-centered worry, and fix our eyes firmly on Jesus, our daily routine takes on eternal significance. We may not change the whole world overnight, but we can change eternity for someone right across the street who is willing to see the light of truth.

What an incredible privilege it is to represent the King of Kings!
