If you judge your mood entirely by the morning headlines or the sudden surprises life throws across your path, joy can feel like a rare commodity. It’s remarkably easy to let stress, minor frustrations, and the weight of daily worries crowd out anything resembling happiness until we find ourselves just trudging through the week on autopilot.
Yet Scripture gives us an invitation that cuts right across our natural inclinations:
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
Notice that the Psalmist didn’t say, “Rejoice only on the days when everything goes smoothly and your schedule cooperates.” He didn’t suggest waiting until all your problems are neatly solved before you allow yourself a smile.
Choosing joy is an active, daily decision. It means taking a look at whatever kind of morning is waiting outside your window, acknowledging the bumps in the road, and deliberately choosing to focus on the goodness and presence of God above them all. Joy isn’t the absence of trouble; it’s the quiet, steady assurance that God is still on His throne and this day belongs to Him.
What is one thing you can choose to thank God for today, and rejoice right in the middle of your usual routine?
