The Clockwork of the Seasons

We humans love to tinker, invent, and build complex systems to keep our lives running smoothly. We draft schedules, set alarms, automate our appliances, and pride ourselves on our organization. Yet, despite all our modern gadgets, how often do we find ourselves running behind, frazzled, and exhausted? Compare our frantic human schedules with the quiet, unfailing rhythm of the natural world. No matter what economic crisis is dominating the morning news, no matter how loud the political arguments get, and no matter what kind of human foolishness is making headlines down here on earth, the seasons keep turning right on schedule. The writer of Ecclesiastes reminded us of the steady clockwork built into our world:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot…”

Ecclesiastes 3:1–2

God didn’t set the universe in motion and then walk away to let it crash. He maintains an active, loving order over every single day and season. The winter frost gives way to spring blossoms, summer heat yields to autumn harvest, and the earth rests and renews just as it was designed to do. When we look at the reliable order of creation, we are reminded of a comforting truth: God is still on His throne, running things. We don’t have to carry the crushing weight of managing the entire universe. We just need to trust the One who does.

What spinning plate in your life are you trying to keep in the air today that you can surrender to the orderly, steady care of the Creator?
