Human institutions, political winds, and economic forecasts change so fast they’ll give you whiplash. One month everything looks steady, and the next, the ground feels like it’s shifting under our feet. Yet, standing outside and watching the orderly procession of autumn reminds us of a comforting, unchanging reality: God is still on His throne. No matter what humanity gets up to down here on earth, the sun still arcs across the autumn sky, the leaves still turn on schedule, and the earth rests in the care of its Maker. The prophet Daniel praised God for His absolute sovereignty over every changing era and season:
“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.”
Daniel 2:20–21
What a relief it is to remember that we don’t have to manage the universe, fix every global problem, or control the weather of our culture! The same God who designed the brilliant colors of autumn and set the stars in motion is the One who holds your life safely in His hands today. You can rest easy in His care, knowing that His faithfulness outlasts every changing season.
What shifting circumstance in your life can you hand over to the unchanging Creator today, resting in His steady control?
