We’ve all had those seasons where we prayed earnestly about a situation—a health issue, a struggling relationship, or a job transition—and things didn’t turn out the way we hoped. The door stayed shut. The road stayed steep.

In those moments, human nature tempts us to wonder if God was actually listening, or if our prayers somehow hit the ceiling and bounced right back down.

Even Jesus, facing the unimaginable weight of the cross in the Garden of Gethsemane, prayed with total honesty about His circumstance:

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.'”  

Matthew 26:39

Jesus didn’t hide His agony. He brought His honest plea to the Father, but He capped it with total trust: “Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Prayer is not about bending God’s arm to get Him to follow our blueprints. It is the process of aligning our hearts with His wisdom. God sees the entire map; we only see the turn right in front of us.

When God says “wait” or points us in a different direction than we planned, it isn’t because He has forgotten us. It’s because He is faithful, and His plans for us are always rooted in His perfect love and purpose.
