Saying 4

Do not be one who shakes hands in pledge
    or puts up security for debts;
if you lack the means to pay,
    your very bed will be snatched from under you.

Proverbs 22:26-27

The Scriptures are more practical than most people realize when it comes to things that come up in real, everyday life; this is another example. Today, we call this “cosigning for a loan” and in my exigence, grown or nearly grown children don’t seem to get this one. Even so, this issue is mentioned several times in Proverbs: 6:1-2; 11:15; 17:18; 20:16.

Living as we do today, in a consumer economy, we often think nothing of running up debt, be it home loans, auto loans, store credit or credit cards. It is so easy to do: Buy now- Pay Later…

Sadly, the wise see the dangers of this and treat debt with a great deal of respect to avoid being crushed under its weight.
