Too Shocking to be Seen!!
Something happened yesterday that I thought I’d share with you, something you might wish to think about, or maybe just for a laugh.
It seems that yesterday’s Sermon Notes were just too much for Facebook and had to be censored.
Yep, they blocked it for violating “Community Standards” which were no doubt established by someone a Corporate who has neither a face or a name.
I was running short on time, so I tried posting a little note instead saying that the Notes had been blocked, but here’s a link (to this site) if you are interested… and they blocked that too. Then I reposted the note without the link and that went through and remains on our Church Facebook page.
Later I wondered if Facebook has a new rule about links… after all, this was a rough weekend there since they had just been caught running a live stream of a mass murder spree in New Zealand. To test this, I posted a random link from the New York Times… and there was no problem.
Hmmm…
My cynical mind started wandering around and I wondered if this site is blocked, you know, because I’m some kind of counter-revolutionary element− Dangerous, unhinged, scary… and of course, my all-time favorite: “Right-Wing”.
After all this site is about Jesus and love and mercy and kindness− scary stuff!
To be sure, nobody at Facebook has ever read the post they blocked; the blocking was instantaneous. Ironically, the post is about the spirit of antichrist which is in the world we live in.
Well, it doesn’t really matter to me, I’ve never been a big fan of the site and I lost confidence in their integrity long ago, and have hardly been there since they blocked my posts from the Word Press “publicize” feature. I simply never bothered to go through the hoops to prove I’m a real person and who knows… maybe I’m only a figment of my imagination… maybe I’m a Russian agent or something.
Oh my!
OK fine, now I’m just making light of it all. Oh, and yes, I could have just copied and pasted the text without a link and it would probably have posted, and maybe I’ll do that later just to see. I guess my real question is this: Why is anyone still there on Facebook after everything we’ve learned about their operation over the last couple of years?

Facebook is something i refused to participate in despite the begging and pleading of family and friends………….so sorry this happened to you!
Yep. Those who have much power…are getting more scary about it day by day.
I do not now, nor ever have used, FB, but I understand what they are trying to do. They scan for content, usually words or phrases, that they flag as “offensive”, without ever reading the content. Depending on the quality of the programming staff, and I’ve worked with some pretty poor coders, your article (yes, they would follow the link) might say, “the blinding white, powerful avalanche” and they scan for “white power”, bang, you’ve been marked as unacceptable.
All kidding aside, that was my guess too.
My understanding is that Russian agents are free to post what they like, as long a they pay for it.
Hmm… I keep that in mind from now on 😊
I’ve been off Facebook for a few years. I don’t miss it. The people I care about most know how to reach me. I encourage everyone to simplify life and drop Facebook.
To simplify life is a good thing to be sure.
Don, I use Facebook and Twitter to stay in touch with (and pray for) many people around the world, who use them as free methods to keep people informed. In the years since I started, some countries have disallowed one or both of the sites altogether and thus I have lost contact with quite a few people in the Middle East and Far East. Until something easier, and also free, comes along to replace it, I will continue using Facebook. My use doesn’t mean I endorse their political, anti-Christian tendencies at all. One of the tips WordPress has for building a blog following is to use other social media to develop a following and I have tried using FB for that myself, although I haven’t seemed to really get the hang of it. Even so I’ve figured out how to build a nice following here on WP. One thing I know for certain is that if we desire a huge following, all we need to do on any platform is to be controversial- it works on FB as well as on WP, and being a Comms specialist from my past life, I have tested this on both. As a Christian blogger however, I don’t think that is an appropriate approach 😊
I am still on Facebook, and probably will stay there for a while. I keep in touch with friends and family. I post devotionals I write, read elsewhere – sometime even your links. I post Bible verses and themes, (as well as jokes, true uplifting stories, household tips etc., and so far no problem. I usually do not take part in the political issues with others, even friends. Perhaps I am not doing enough for the Gospel and the Lord…
I understand… Facebook is where the family photos are (being sold to strangers) so that’s where you have to see them these days 😊
I only make very limited use of Facebook, but it is the only way I can keep in touch with some of my friends and relatives. I also manually-post the links to my new articles on Facebook, because I do get some exposure from it. Other than that, it has just about outlived its usefulness.
Yeah, I agree- it has about outlived its usefulness. I only use it for the church because that’s where the people are… for reasons unknown 😊
Facebook can block antichrist?! Wow! They are powerful. 😉 — Blocking truth is sad evidence of believing lies.
To be fair, I really have no idea what generated the message- it might even have been a system error for all I know. I requested a review and am still awaiting a reply…
Don and others, one of the responses I got from FB yesterday, when I tried to post your most recent Photo of the Week, was that someone else (not FB) had reported your post as objectionable, which led to FB blocking your entire site – not just one post. I requested a Review which was given to me as an option. I’m waiting to see if FB really does a Review, and if so, what the results will be. (:
Indeed- that is something that crossed my mind- for a long time now for it had to happen eventually. We seem to live in a world where anyone can silence a view they disagree with by feigning offence… all in the cause of freedom of speech of course.
