I originally posted this 2 years ago, and I thought I’d re-post it today just for fun…
This little guy is my dog’s friend, you should see them play together… and this rabbit is no pet; he’s entirely wild!
The game is that when the dog needs to go out, he looks for the rabbit… When this particular one is there they race around the yard; the rabbit can’t shake the dog off his tail, but the dog won’t catch him either. When the rabbit slows down, the dog slows down; when the rabbit speeds up so does the dog. When the rabbit gets tired he squeezes through the fence and they take a break, then he squeezes back through the fence and they run some more.
When I took these pictures, I didn’t even know the rabbit was out there until I was almost on top of him; he didn’t seem to care much…
He seemed to be more interested in taking care of hygiene..
The funny thing was that the dog was right next to me the whole time I was shooting pictures; it’s like they have an understanding between them… it’s just a game, nobody gets hurt…
The Bible says that the day will come when the lion will lay down with the lamb. In my yard, the rabbits play with the dog!
Thank you, Lord for all of the simple ways that You bless us!
Now this is a whole new career idea: a blind wildlife photographer!

When She Who Must be Obeyed decided we must come to DC, she also determined the dog must go… so now he’s our “former dog” and living happily at Wright-Patterson AFB! I’m guessing the rabbit grew up and lost his sense of humor 🙂

Great dog and rabbit story. Never heard of such a thing. When our dog caught a squirrel, letting go — well, my wife and daughters had to yell at him. Given how hard how long he worked to catch that squirrel, I suspect he was a bit disgusted.
That dog has passed on, but we have rabbits that look just like that one in your pictures. They regularly visit our back yard, and my lady has adopted them as pets. So I have been told to forget the weed killer and let the clover and dandelions grow. The funny thing is that the grass still covers the yard, and the lawn looks okay.
Here is a clue. When we insist upon covering our yards with just one type of plant, that forces us to use weedkiller and fertilizer. In a natural environment, the various plants work together to enrich the soil. And what we call a weed is, after all, rather arbitrary.
Any idea why suburban homeowners think we each have to operate little grass farm? What is the point of growing and bagging magnificent grass crops if we are just going to throw the stuff away? When are we going to figure out we are polluting our environment with weedkiller and fertilizer just to make our lawns “look” perfect.
I don’t know Tom… well at least nobody can look at my lawn and accuse me of having a perfect one!
