I have a proposition for you to think about today. In this case, my proposition is in the form of a thought, one that I believe to be correct; one that could be very significant both for each of us and for the entire Body of Christ. The proposition is:
We can only disciple other people through the overflowing of our own discipleship.
What I mean by this is that we can only share what we have an abundance of ourselves. For us to disciple others is to share what we have in our own relationships with Jesus Christ. If we don’t have much blessing from Him, with what can we bless others?
Thus, if my proposition is correct, and I am convinced that it is, then we must have a full and overflowing relationship with Christ before we can help others to have a full and overflowing relationship with Him. Since the whole object of discipleship is to grow new disciples who make disciples, then we need to pay particular attention to our own relationship with the Lord. See what I mean?
Now we come to the crux of the whole thing: First, all of this means that our relationship with Jesus is not simply for our own benefit; it is also for the benefit of others and ultimately for the entire Body. Second, as His servant, I have a much richer and fulfilling need to focus and grow in my relationship with Christ than I might ever have recognized before, and if this is so what am I going to do about it?
Maybe what I need to consider are things like daily practices such as prayer, Bible reading, meditation/contemplation, service, spiritual expressions and silence.
I wonder, are you willing to join me in examining and evaluating our daily spiritual practices to see if we are being filled with enough of His life to be able to share it with others; in discovering if we are well fed or mal-nourished spiritually? I would like to share some thoughts with you in several posts over the next few weeks about what I discover in this area, and sharing with you where I have done well, where I have fallen short and what I do about the results. I would also challenge you to come along on the journey with me.
I have no doubt that we will grow in our relationships with Jesus as we go.

All abroad here!
Amen! You might want to add a “pi” to that title, though. Bad place to have a typo.
Lol. Add a “po” to that title. I made a typo, too, but the comment section is a good place for that.
I hate it when that happens!
Count me in

“We can only disciple other people through the overflowing of our own discipleship” – sounds like a win-win to me!
Thank you

Great. Bible encourages us (Paul) to examine ourselves. I believe this is a good method of doing that as any. Good job with encouraging self searching.

A little late to the party, but I am in. I think you can tell from some of my posts that I am looking for people to journey with.
Glad to have you along for the adventure!

Exactly! I resonate with you here…out of the abundance of my overflow can I only then splash living water on others. To many are trying to lead when they don’t want to follow themselves. Awesome!
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!
jumping on board for the journey!
Mine’s a lonely walk so far, so I’d love to join in 🙂
They say there’s strength in numbers!
I think it’s an interesting concept. I like what you said about how our faith isn’t for only our own benefit, that it benefits the entire Body. But I also believe that we as Christians need to be careful to not use what we may think is a weak faith as an excuse to not serve our Lord. Otherwise, it is great motivation to grow our faith and relationship with Christ.
Agreed
This is the concept of Body Ministry, an example of Jesus with His immediate disciples, and one that we ALL need who claim Christ Jesus as our Master and Teacher. You can count me in as I love the way you put it forth in categories! Bless you for this, Brother Don.
Thanks Roland!

I want to reblog this to another WordPress site I have, but it doesn’t come up in drop down list. Any help available would be appreciated.
I’m not sure why that would be, I’ve double checked and everything is allowed..
