Into the setting (rising?) sun

20130917_063836

Thanks to my dear Christian brother Mike, I have this beautiful picture to share with you today.  The only thing is… I don’t know if it is a sunrise or a sunset!

George Washington was president of the Constitutional Convention in 1787. While presiding over the Convention, he sat in a high-backed chair on the dias that had a sun on it.  On the last day of the  Convention, Benjamin Franklin remarked that there were many times during the long course of those proceedings when he wasn’t sure whether that sun was setting or rising, but when the Constitution was finally agreed to, he had determined that America’s sun was rising.  Have you ever felt like that about something?

Maybe you get that feeling when you read the papers about the things going on in the economy or the government, or when you see the way people behave these days.  You might even wonder whether the sun is rising or setting on your faith!

The way I see it, there is plenty of doubt when we cast our gaze on the things of this world.  But when we consider our faith in Jesus Christ, there can be no doubt that even as we go through uncertain times, or trials, our future is glorious.  The sun is rising just as surely as the Son has risen. What a wonderful truth, how can we be silent; don’t you just want to tell everybody!

It’s so fun to read your thoughts. Although you are a stranger to me, we seem to think the same way so often. Probably that “brother in Christ” thing workin’, huh? 🙂

  2. Doesn’t matter whether it is a sunrise or sunset. Your friend captured a beauty. Nice post.
