Simple Blessings

In typical modern life we may not always take stock of the simple blessings that God has given us.  Maybe we are too busy, maybe we are too wrapped up in what we need to be working at, I really don’t know. Probably it isn’t just modern life that takes our attention away from simple things, I’ll bet it’s always been that way…

Simple blessings like family and friends, or pets; even rabbits!

As I’ve grown older, I don’t get down on the floor or on the grass very often to play with a dog like I did when I was a kid; at the moment we don’t even have a dog, but when I was a boy, I spent hours crawling around with the dog and just enjoying simple pleasure of a faithful friend.

Why do we grow up and forget how to enjoy life?

Several years ago, we had a group from church over to our house for a BBQ, and one of the ladies said to my wife that she was surprised that I let her have a dog.  When my wife told the lady that I was usually the one who took care of the dog, and that I even got on the floor and played with him, the lady was positively mortified; why?

There’s no reason for us to put that little boy or little girl who lives within us to death, just because we’ve grown to adulthood.  Yes, of course we need to be responsible, but the simple blessings that God has bestowed upon us, the blessings that are innocent in their nature, are to be treasured, don’t you think? They are surely the kinds of things we should be thankful for!

  1. Thank God my children have caused me to slow down and enjoy life. The joy of having children is to become like a child again
