The Light That Breaks the Gray

There is a distinct kind of beauty in a misty autumn morning on the farm. The landscape is draped in gray, the field lines are blurred, and for a little while, you can only see a few feet ahead. It can feel mysterious, or if we’re tired, it can feel a bit gloomy.

But then the sun finally breaks through the mist, burning off the fog and turning the dew on the grass into a million glittering diamonds. Everything looks entirely different in the light.

Jesus used that exact imagery to describe what He brings into our everyday existence:

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.'”

John 8:12

Walking with Jesus doesn’t mean life is always a cloudless summer afternoon. It means that even when the gray mists roll in, His light is right there with you.

Joy in the journey isn’t manufactured by positive thinking or trying to force a cheerful attitude; it is the natural byproduct of staying close to the Light. When we let His presence illuminate our path, the gloom lifts, and we rediscover the simple beauty of walking hand-in-hand with our Savior.

Do you need the warm light of Christ to break through a foggy or discouraging outlook in your life today?
