Skilled Workers

Saying 6

Do you see someone skilled in their work?
    They will serve before kings;
    they will not serve before officials of low rank.

Provers 22:29

The sixth of the saying of the wise is just as wise today as it ever has been. As a father, I can’t tell you how many times I have told my children that they must not only be competent in their work, but that they need to master it to be successful in the workplace. It’s hard for the young to realize this, to understand how competitive the workplace often is in the modern economy… and how unusual the truly excellent worker is.

Yet for Christians, this takes on another level of importance. We, as Christ’s Ambassadors need to achieve excellence in the workplace if we desire to have an impact for Christ. I don’t refer here to making big brash speeches in the workplace, but rather that by earning the respect of others, we gain a certain level of influence should the opportunity to share arise. If nothing else, we don’t bring scorn upon the Gospel by doing substandard work.
