The greatest of cathedrals are not made by the hands of men, but by the very hand of God Himself. In those cathedrals, you can go to pray and to listen to the sounds that are not sounds made by men.
If you listen very carefully, you may even hear the voice of God.
People often say that they can worship God anywhere; in the desert, by the sea, in the forest… I happen to agree with them, for these are wonderful places to worship Him. Surrounded by His awesome creation, taking it all in, it revives our spirit.
I can only think of one better place to worship God than in the midst of His creation, and that is in the midst of His people, for when we are in the midst of His people, we are not only surrounded by His handiwork, but we are also right in the midst of His purpose.

Thank you – what a great post – my favorite worshipping is in nature – but what you said about the people and what Little Monk said about the “who” (down in Whoville 😉 – is the most important. The Church is the Who ( not the band – I’m feeling silly now )

John 4: 21 “Women, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the father. “You worship what you do not know, for salvation is from the Jews. “But an hour is coming, and is now, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Hm must worship in truth and spirit.”

As I read In His Cathedral, I recalled the moments on this earth where I felt awe struck and reverent. Then I recalled God’s detailed instructions in the OT to his people about the construction and furnishing of the temple.
