Spiritual Gifts and the Character of God

We began our revealing of the gifts with this question, and since we have reached the half way point in our revelation, it’s time for a little break to revisit the question and take a look at three more interesting things we can learn.  To begin, let’s check out some passages from 1 Corinthians:

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.  There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men.

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. (12:4-7)

The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. (12:12-13)

…But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. (12:24-26)

  1. God values order and unity.
  2. God trusts us and is trustworthy.
  3. God desires relationship with us.

It is good that we should reflect on these things.

We’ll pick up in our study of spiritual gifts with Mercy and Wisdom, see you then!

My mind often goes to the command, “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”

This probably belongs in the previous post, but I’m here so my comment is tagging along. You know I’m one of those pesky cessastionists LOL. I think I would see most of what you said about the gift of healing as either simply God’s response to prayer, or simply must the providence of God in healing someone. But, we do agree that God is still God and can do anything He chooses. You would call it miracles, I would call it Divine Providence. But this has been a fascinating study, Don and thanks.
