Photo of the Week: August 6, 2014

I took this picture last month on our trip to the Midwest, just outside of  Dyersville, Iowa. This location is a mile or two from the site of the movie “Field of Dreams” which some of you may remember as the 1989 Kevin Costner movie about baseball… and dreams.  Remember the line, “If you build it the will come”? Yep, that’s the movie.

When we stopped to take a few pictures, it was about 7:30 in the evening, and the sun was getting low in the sky. There was a big thunderstorm on its way into the area, and the shifting light made for quickly changing effects that seem to provide an almost eerie feel to some of the shots.  I particularly liked this one, because it seems to capture the essence of this rural and almost lonely place of flat plains, long straight roads, large green fields and few people.

Don, “Field of Creams” – I think you mean “Dreams,” don’t you? Great photo.

  2. This picture paints a thousand words and I would absolutely love to have a copy.
Okay you ready for my interpretation of this picture ~ here goes ~ it’s deep but worth the plunge.

I see a fruitful field with rows of new believers beginning their growth in Christ. Tiny seeds, newly planted and fragile. In the front on the lower left side is a red flag representing caution in this phase. This is a new believers beginning. In the back of the field is a row of trees reflecting deeper roots and growth in Christ to maturity. On the far back left side is the single mature tree ~ the Tree of Life. This is our prize. It is positioned for our focus. In the back you see the Harvest Barn where the Threshing and Winnowing take place after the Harvest, reflecting our refinement, our perfecting. Along the far back just to the right are the silos ~ storing the harvest after the leaving the Harvest Barn. Now my very favorite story in this picture is the long row of poles running parallel to the road. These are no ordinary poles for you will see the Cross reflected in each one ~ all connected for the electric life source ~ which is God. This is God’s sovereignty running along side the road which reflects Man’s Will. Along the road you also see the single directional sign which provides a couple of thoughts ~ the Law or perhaps maintaining our direction. God’s Sovereignty and Man’s Will running parallel. A little depth, but a picture worth a thousand words, in my minds eye. ~ Amen :Y

    Thank you Don.
