Who Can I Trust?

IL714 029-LR

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2

I think we all experience those times when we aren’t quite sure who we can trust, those times when it seems like everything is turning against us, those times when even our friends are nowhere to be found. Those are lonely times, scary times, anxious times. We might be willing to turn to anybody who happens along, only to be disappointed once again. We might become desperate; tempted to try something rash!

We might even lose out faith in humanity, or lose our faith in justice.  Who knows, in those situations, desperate people can be capable of almost anything.

Some might turn to violence, while others might turn to drink, and some will even turn to food… anything to take the pain away!

Have you ever felt like that? Have you ever felt like God was so far away that you couldn’t reach Him? Or maybe you felt like your situation was so dire that He wouldn’t hear your cry?

Yet there He is, right there with you. There He is wondering why you don’t turn to Him; have you ever experienced that?

When we make our dwelling place with Him, He is always there. When we dwell in His presence, there is no pain, no loneliness, no futility, for He is with us. It is only when we turn away from His presence that any of those feelings become real, but they are not real because He has left us, they are  only real if we have left Him.
