Alive!

Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman about living water in John 4, comparing regular physical water with the water that He could provide.  The upshot was that a person who drinks water will thirst again, but a person who drinks His “living water” would never thirst again.  Clearly there was an allegory involved.  While that may be true in literary terms, Jesus’ remarks were entirely true in real terms, for when we accept what He has to offer, we are filled to overflowing with life.

There is a profound difference between merely existing physically and really being alive.Contrary to the notions of some, being alive has nothing to do with wild living, rather it is all about being filled with a life that transcends the merely physical.

To be alive in Christ begins with receiving the gift of eternal life.  Yes, we will die physically, yet we will continue to live eternally, with the result that we have no cause to fear physical death.  Jesus spoke the world and the universe came into being.  He spoke the word and all living things came into being.  Imagine being filled with a power that can do this! This is what we receive when we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, this I say that we become truly alive in Christ.

Why should we ever allow ourselves to be down in the dumps?  Why should we ever have a case of the Monday morning “blahs?”  We have receive an indestructible life!

So here we go, to begin another week: Awesome!  here we are with another opportunity to get back into the weekly grind: Fantastic!  We will be confronted by problems in this new week: Beautiful!

n Christ, what have we to fear?  Why should we ever have a bad day?

It isn’t that we have been given an “Easy Button” or anything like that; it’s because we have been filled to overflowing with an indestructible life.  What a difference this can make if we simply decide to keep this in mind instead of listening to the moans and groans of those around us; it’s a great week!

Oh yes, it really can be that simple!

Thanks for the encouragement. It’s a good reminder for me to “put off” complaining and “put on” joy and thanksgiving to the Lord in my own heart everyday. Praise God.

Well said. It’s funny, I was just meditating on this very concept last night. I reckon that The Lord wanted to confirm to me that I, indeed, need kf put more positive thought/attitude into what He can do through me daily. Blessings, Brother.

  3. Great reminder to take our thoughts captive, remembering Whose we are…and the power He has.

(I also like the photographic illustration of the phrase, “The upshot was that a person who drinks water will thirst again”…the geyser-like fountain shooting up! Very nice.)
