This will post on August 25, my last Sunday at Milan Christian Church before I head to the East Coast. By the time this posts, I will have given my last sermon there…
The title and theme of my last talk is “Follow me” and I will have taught the text from Mark’s Gospel in which Jesus gave His first command, you guessed it, “Follow me”.
I’d like to share a video with you that I used this morning, and I hope you’ll take a couple of minutes to listen closely to the words…
It just happens that I was at this concert back in 2005 in New York City when this was recorded, but to be honest, I had forgotten all about the song. Then, last July I went to another Paul McCartney show and recalled it. It really struck me as an amazing song. I have no idea whether Mr. McCartney is a Christian or not; I know him as a great song-writer, musician and performer, and that’s about all I know. Whether he is or not, he did a wonderful job of describing what it is like to follow Jesus Christ in this song, and if he is a non-Christian and did this by accident, not realizing that ‘follow me’ is the Lord’s first command and then nailing the experience of a follower, well then it’s even more amazing.
One thought that I hope I left with the people I spoke to this morning is this: Jesus’ first command was “Follow Me.” His last command was “go and make disciples” and when we look at the totality of His Ministry it is plain to see that to follow Him is to go and make disciples. When we obey Him, He is with us always, from the highest mountain top to the lowest valleys, from the bright sun of day, to the faintest starlight of night; with us, beside us, and providing for us.
O what a lucky people are we!

Really? I don’t see the lyrics of this song as being Christian based. I thinks he’s talking about a woman. And the women in the crowd holding signs readingj “Follow Me” are wishful fans asking Paul to follow them. This is one of those songs where you can make it what you want. ,,,,,just sayin’
I’ve got no idea what his thought process was in writing the song; you may well be right. Seems to me all the more intriguing if he hit those Bible themes by “accident” Thanks for commenting!
Great post…you summed up Jesus’ commands nicely.
Thanks!
Perfect. Thank you brother.
Thanks Bargo!
