POST IT: Thinking about my future in blogging

I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about my future in blogging, and I thought I would share some of my thoughts with you…

Within a few weeks, my living circumstances will be changing, and I will probably have more time on my hands, so I’ve been thinking that I might post more on this blog.  I have already started a new blog that is all dedicated to photos I’ve taken, the link is at the top of the right column on this page.  That seemed like a fun idea since I will find myself in an area full of photo opportunities (literally) and running out to get photos will give me an excuse to get out more.  It will also afford me a challenge since most legally blind people aren’t into photography!

As for this blog, I thought that I would start posting, in addition to my regular posts, more short little bits about things that strike my fancy.  Maybe something like little “editorials” about things in the news, or things I happen across, kind of like a Christian’s opinionated perspective on the world we live in…

Up to this point, I have normally restricted my opinions to matters of the Christian life, faith and the Bible, and have ventured into current events only sparingly  However, since I’ll be sitting in the middle of political events in the Washington area, what the heck?  Nobody says you have to agree with me, right? For instance, here’s one thing I came across in the National Mall in Washington several weeks back that I was sorely tempted to write about:

There I was, walking down the Mall between the Capitol and the Washington Monument where crews were setting up all sorts of tents and pavilions for the 4th of July celebration, and can you guess what the theme was for this year?  Remember, this is for the 4th of July, the 237th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence… give up yet?

It was “Cultures and Cuisines of the World”

Now that struck me as a cool idea for any other time, but for the 4th of July?

I could go on for quite a bit on this, but for now I’ll let you fill in the rest. I took photos of all of this, but deleted them after I decided not to run with it.

So, here’s my question for you, dear reader: Would that sort of thing be of any interest?  Would you “unfollow? Would it just clutter up the blog? Any thoughts at all… do you care?

My thought is that it might be fun to see what happens, if nothing else…

At least I might attract others who are interested in different subjects who might stumble upon the Gospel here, and who knows?  Maybe a seed could be planted that might not otherwise.  In any event, I’d welcome your thoughts!

Sounds great! I guess for such a quiet man what really going on in that head would be very interest. I know after picking your brain on a few matters that what ever it is that you blog about will be insightful. I say have fun!

Don, you have a knack for making people think. I say, “Do it.”

p.s.: Applying MOSTLY definition 2 in the above:
Definition of KNACK. 1. a: a clever trick or stratagem . b: a clever way of doing something . 2: a special ready capacity that is hard to analyze or teach

Also, I appreciate your picture blog.

Dennis, if people only knew how hilarious you are some times… Thanks.
The only thing is you already know how far out I get sometimes; these poor folks aren’t all that used to it!

Just want to let you know how much I appreciate your thoughts on matters of the Christian life, faith, and the Bible! Many times you express exactly how I feel, but I don’t have the gift of written expression as you do. Thank you for your work! Looking forward to reading whatever you want to write about 🙂

You’re writing style is intriguing and you certainly know how to capture your audience. So yes…absolutely you should expand your topics! Controversy creates attention and those who NEED to hear truth most likely will be on the other team. Press on!

I for one appreciate a Christian’s view point of worldly matters. I’ll be a reader.

I would like to hear your opinion on things. A book you’ve read, the squirrel that lives in your tree or something funny that happened at the grocery store. There’s a whole world out there and I know something will be of interest to you – don’t worry about us – no one is going to ‘un-follow.’

There are so many hurting and hungry people out there today and the laborers so few. Just saying…
