Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
Psalm 100:4
Thanksgiving is coming up this Thursday; what are you thankful for?
Let’s be honest, giving thanks is often an afterthought when Thanksgiving Day rolls around. There’s a big meal to get ready for, the house needs to be cleaned up, the table set, the big bird needs to be cooked… and how did Grandma make those green beans again? When everybody arrives, there’s football on TV, catching up to do and good times for all… none of this is bad, in fact it’s wonderful. But it isn’t giving thanks to God.
If you would do a word search in the Bible for “thanks” you will come up with tons of references. This is because being thankful and giving thanks is so basic to the God’s people that it should be a daily thing. There are also many references to feasts of thanks, because this is a good a proper thing to do as a group, a clan, a family. Let’s ensure that we don’t get caught up in the day and forget the thanks this year! Let’s make it a plan to take a few minutes before the big meal to thank God for all He has done in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. I’m quite certain that the result will be to make a great day even better, and to bring all of our families and friends closer together.

We don’t celebrate thanksgiving here, but I so agree with your thoughts. There is always, always so much to be thankful for!
