Be Strong

We live in challenging times; can there be any doubt about that?

High prices, high unemployment and no end in sight.  Wars, rumors of wars and no apparent rationality to any of it.  Crazy judges, crazy politicians and crazy people all around…

…And here we are, Ambassadors for Christ in a world that seems on the brink of madness.

This could have been written 500 years ago, of course.

Even so, it can seem a little intimidating at times; particularly if we listen to those in the media who describe Christians as the ones who are crazy.  As a great general once said, when his situation appeared hopeless, “The situation is excellent: I shall attack!”

Why shouldn’t we react to our world with bold defiance and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ all the more? Yes, things often seems to be getting away from us, but it isn’t like God hasn’t been busy.  People are rising up all over the world to testify about their changed lives.  While some old churches are stagnant, others are growing and rising up to take their places.  More and more people are following Christ; probably more than at any other time, even though the media declines to notice.  Yes, I’d say the situation really is excellent!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

(Joshua 1:9)

Just as God’s people boldly crossed the Jordan to take possession of the Promised Land, against all apparent odds so long ago, let us, as God’s people today cross the Jordan to take the Good News of reconciliation to a world that is desperate for Truth.
