Back in the early 90’s, I worked in a very stressful place where very few of my fellow employees were ever very happy at work: it was a meat grinder! I made a decision to like it there. In fact, I made a decision to rejoice in it.
Every morning I would be one of the first people at work, and I would pass others in the halls, dragging themselves to their offices. These unhappy people would say “Hey how ya doin’?” and I would either say, “Fantastic!” or “I couldn’t possibly be better!”
Most of the time, they would tell me that I was a liar…
The truth is, I was actually telling the truth; I was fantastic, and I couldn’t have been better. You see, I had chosen to be.
Consider this: “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
Funny thing about that verse; ‘let us rejoice’ indicates that we should make a choice, so I made one. You might think I’m crazy, but it works. Why choose to be miserable when you can choose to be glad… after all, which is more fun? Choose to be happy, choose to be glad, and choose to rejoice. Keep telling yourself that you are fantastic, that you couldn’t be better, repeat that verse to yourself. Here’s the key: Being unhappy in what you are doing is just a bad habit. You can train yourself to have a good habit instead, and the good habit is more fun than the bad one. It’s just that simple: Rejoice in the Lord; rejoice in all things!

Good for you for breaking what I like to call the “unhappy trend” where people find it more common and socially acceptable to act like they hate their job and dread waking up to their life each day. This IS the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice!
I’m the same way; the only time I don’t want to be at work is when I should be in bed (i.e. when I’m sick). Choose happiness! Amen. Carley
