Saying 2

Do not exploit the poor because they are poor
    and do not crush the needy in court,
for the Lord will take up their case
    and will exact life for life.

Provers 22:22-23

As we all know, both the Old and New Testaments tach us to watch out for the poor and needy among us (Exodus 23:6; James 1:27). Even so, many oppress and take advantage of the poor both now and throughout history (Zechariah 7:10; Malachai 3:5). In the absence of human defense God has promised to take up in their behalf and take away from those who took away from them. It doesn’t take a genius to see that that taking advantage of people in a weakened situation, such as the poor and destitute may be profitable in some way, but it is never wise and never honorable. Not only do other people take a dim view, but God is also not best pleased.
