I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed our adventure in Song of Songs, but like all good things, we’ve come to the end. Happily however, we get to begin a new adventure; I thought another kind of love story would be in order, and since I haven’t done a book of prophecy in some time now, I thought we could take a tour of the Minor Prophet, Hosea.

This should be interesting, and certainly, there is a fair amount of controversy associated with it. The controversy begins with how we understand Hosea’s marriage to Gomer: Is it literal, or is it an allegory? In a way, I don’t care, yet to be honest about it, they way we interpret Hosea’s marriage will determine how we understand the book, at least that’s the conventional wisdom. To me, it really shouldn’t matter all that much unless you are a literalist who insists that everything is literal. In that case, you will find Scripture exceedingly difficult. For everyone else, these prophetic books aren’t nearly as tough as they seem at first.
