I hope you will look carefully at this picture. I loaded it at full size, so you may even want to click on it to see the full-sized version…
I took this shot this past Sunday afternoon for my photo blog, “Photo Vistas” but I don’t think I can use it because to tell you the truth, I botched it! When I posted here about why I have two blogs in September I think it was, I mentioned that I often have trouble taking pictures because I can’t really tell what I taking a picture of. In this case, I was shooting for the geese and/or ducks in the water, but I missed most of them, so I say the picture is no good… but I can’t stop looking at it.
To me, it looks completely fake, don’t you agree?
But I know it’s not! I took it, I downloaded it, and I posted it here. No, it is not photo-shopped, I don’t even own Photo Shop! If I owned it, I’d have no clue how it works, for that matter. How can the water look like that? Here are some facts about the shot:
It is taken from a dock looking down at the water. The sun is pretty low in the sky behind me, hitting the water and the birds directly on the sides facing the camera. It is quite breezy and the river was pretty choppy. My best guess is that the choppiness of the water is reflecting images of the birds, the trees in the background, leaves in the water and other images reflecting off of the little waves like a series of mirrors creating this effect… maybe this is something that “real” photographers use all the time for effects; I don’t know. All I know is that the photo is untouched and completely natural.
Isn’t that amazing? I’ve never seen anything like it.
How amazing is God’s creation! I say that very frequently here, and I believe it, but I think this is one of those times when I’m really impressed by the detail of it all. Maybe that’s just because with my low vision, I don’t see detail very often, so it’s novel to me, but the detail in creation that can create an image like this simply blows me away!
What an awesome, amazing and marvelous God we have!
