A Thrilling Announcement!

I’ve been thinking for the past few days about what should follow in “Sunday Class Notes” here on this blog.  This coming Sunday, September 29 will see the last installment of my Hebrews notes which have been running for some months now.  I would like to thank those of who have read, “liked” and/or commented on them.

Based upon the popularity of my current series of posts on Biblical Covenant along with your many comments on these posts, and on the recent post about the Bible (not) being all that difficult to understand, I thought that maybe I should take the plunge and run my class notes on the Olivet Discourse beginning the first Sunday in October.

For many, the term “Olivet Discourse” may be an unfamiliar one, but the text is not.  It comes from Matthew 24 and 25.  This discussion between Jesus and his disciples took place at the very end of his ministry, shortly before the Last Supper.  It is the only passage where Jesus speaks as a prophet, and as such is considered by many if not most scholars to be one of the most difficult passages in the entire New Testament to understand.  It is often misunderstood because so many have attempted to work it into things that it really doesn’t do… maybe you can say that about a lot of prophecy!

At any rate, it is a pretty interesting study of a fascinating and unique passage, and I thought that maybe it is time to share it with you.  I hope that when we get through it, you might come to realize that even the most difficult passages of the Bible are not as hard to understand as most people think if we will only apply some method to our study. I also hope that you will find it interesting even if you have different ideas about the passage than I do… and that we can keep the hate mail to a reasonable minimum!

OK, just kidding about that, it should be interesting though even if you have a different view.

Let’s all get together, then on the first Sunday in October, the 6th, and see what Jesus had to say on that fateful day!
