I am posting a comment from my post “Looking at the Root Cause” that was submitted my a very dear brother “Bargo”. I think he made some really good points that few would see in ‘comments’ so I am posting it in its own right. “Bargo” and worked together directing our church’s Worship Team before he and his family moved to Michigan a few months back, and all of us back here in Illinois miss all of them very much. By the way, he quoted the same passage from Theodore Roosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” that Richard Nixon quoted in his “Farewell” address to his staff the morning he left the presidency. (I’m not sure what significance that random info might have, maybe it’s just my inner history geek coming out.)

Here is a thought to ponder.
Just like the days of the Old testament, the pendulum swings back and forth every 40 to 50 years. If you go back 48 years ago and listen to this song from Barry McGuire “Eve of Destruction” you will see not much has changed. (listen now before going on to the rest of the reply….)

You may think the lyrics are interesting but if you see what happened to the release of this song, you may find hope. You see In the first week of its release in Aug , “Eve” was at #30 in the Cash Box charts and soared to #1 in both the Cash Box and Billboard charts by Sept. Now to the cool part….
The song’s success came in sales came before success in airplay (word of mouth without public media of those days). It did so well that most radio stations and DJ refused to play if because it did not get through the proper (conventional) channels. We as Christian have voices that do not need to go thru the airplay either to be a huge success for His Kingdom. Just like this Blog. When I see people agreeing, like your two radio announcers, I suspect they are losing their effectiveness and are worried. From my perspective, I see the pendulum heading back to God, Ethical , Character and Classy. I see this from my teenagers’ interests and what they are following. Therefor I am hopeful that Lincoln’s of the world are waiting in the wings ready to take center stage. The 50 years of our world clock is swinging in God’s favor just like when He heard the cries from the Israel in the book of Judges every 40 to 50 years.
