This past weekend I was visiting a friend’s place out in the country where I found quite a few things to take pictures of, but alas I was unprepared! Having only my cell phone, I took many photos that will find their way here in time, as well as into my photo blog. (Oh how I wished that I had my “real” camera!) During breakfast, I noticed something unusual out the window, and when someone mentioned that the cat was on top of the bird feeder, I just had to go out and see if I could get a shot of the scene, and the result is what appears above…
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and “they” may well be right in this case! Yet, more comes to mind than just the games between a cat and the birds around the yard. The something more begins when you replace the word “cat” with the word “predator.”
In a sense, isn’t this picture a metaphor for the spiritual battle that we as Christians often find ourselves in the midst of? How our Enemy waits to pounce!
He seems to pop into almost any situation to drive us off of the path of Christ, and sadly, he succeeds all to often. Yet when you consider this picture, you might notice that while the cat awaits the return of the birds to feed, no birds are present.
Maybe the thought that we should take from this scene is to avoid walking into the devil’s traps in the first place.

Kind of funny. When I looked at the picture and read the caption I saw the opposite. I thought of being Vigilant on a defence not on a offence. ALWAYS being prepared for an attack from the evil one. The cat is most likely a loved one over a predator (in some eyes, depending if you are a cat or dog person). En Guard…. your foe may be dressed in sheep’s clothing.
Obviously I’m not a cat person!
Great picture. I think the cat is definitely in predator mode.
Thanks, I think so too!
