“Surely God is my help;
the Lord is the one who sustains me.
Let evil recoil on those who slander me;
in your faithfulness destroy them”
(Psalm 54:4-5)
How easy it is to think that we can handle everything that comes our way… and what folly!
David wrote this in a time of severe trial when his enemies were closing in. While all of this was going on, he was looking to God for his strength, as we should. Let’s face it, we may not be running from assassins or murderers, but we may often feel like we are… that’s when we need to remember who sustains us: God. We need to get over thinking about how great and strong we think we are, and humble ourselves before God, allowing Him to lead us through life. If we do, we will be sustained through good times and bad, and we’ll most likely have fewer worries and fewer trials.

We certainly need to turn to God for our strength because He provides what we cannot do on our own. Our worries become less when we do so because we have our faith and trust in the One who has the power to overcome, but I’m not sure our trials become less. it is through our trials that we learn to depend on Him and put our trust in Him. Without the trials, we may revert back to relying on ourselves and our own strength.
Thanks Shelly, well stated!
