The End is Near

The leaves have changed, they are falling from the trees like rain; this is a sign.  The air is no longer warm in the northern regions and soon it will no longer be warm in southern climes; the end is near.

A new month has dawned, it is now November first; the end is near.  The political ads have increased to a fever pitch and all of the candidates are running around for last-minute electioneering; the end is near.

The end of what?

Well, clearly the end of something or other is near!

The end of the summer?  The end of the election campaign? The end of the world?

Well, certainly the baseball season has ended!

What is it that needs to end in your life?  Sin, weakness, lack of discipline…?

The warm weather is about over.  The election will be over soon enough, and the world has its own timetable.  Your life and mine will also end some day… hopefully no time soon, but the way we live it can still change! We can still begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, if we haven’t already.  We can still put our own sin to death, and each of us probably has some need of that.  We still have time to serve our Lord more seriously, we still have time to do a better job of serving others and loving our fellow mankind.

What shall we put an end to today?
