Yesterday’s post asked the question could we be stagnant? It went on to make the point that if we are not growing in our walk with our Lord, then stagnation will be the a likely result. The photo above was taken minutes later of another little pond. You’ll notice a much larger one in the background… This scene is yards from yesterday’s scene. If you’ve got the geography in mind, let’s see if we can figure out why this scene is a healthy one, and yesterday’s was not.
The nasty little pond from yesterday was apparently created by drainage. This one is fed by a spring and drained by a little stream through the woods. (picture in “Cool Water”)
Think about it, when you have a body of water that is being continually refreshed by clear, cool spring water, it is unlikely to become stagnant. You might go so far as to say that it has a ‘life source’. Jesus made reference to something like this in speaking to the woman at the well:
Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
(John 4:13-14)
Do we have Jesus as our source of life? Are we following Him through our lives and serving Him in response to His lead?
Remaining in His Word, focusing on our relationships with Him and serving Him will keep us connected to the source of spiritual enrichment and transformation much like the spring provides to these ponds. There will be no stagnation, there will be life to the full and life-long growth in our relationship with Him.
