The Power of Life

All too often we are reminded about our mortality; sometimes we hear about an accident where someone lost their life and we are reminded that life can be fragile.  Today is a great day to be reminded of the power of life, for there is no greater power in this world than the power of life.

The photo above is one I took in my yard the other day; it is some kind of ornamental grass that was planted there before I bought the place, and when I took the picture it was about five feet tall.  This is only remarkable when you consider the fact that a couple of weeks ago, it was just barely starting to poke through the ground. In a month, it will be about 20 feet tall, and when it tassels, it will be around 25 feet tall.  There isn’t much you can do to kill it; I’ve tried a couple of times, but it just laughs at me! (Figuratively speaking, that is…)

This morning I’ve been pulling weeds that grow in the cracks of the pavement; any idea how many applications of Roundup I’ve applied?  They just come right back…

In yesterday’s post Sunday Class Notes, the text was John 11:1-44, the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the tomb.  It was a practical demonstration of the power of life.  In that text, Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life” He who believes in me will live , even though he dies.” (John 11:25) The grave could not hold Jesus.  If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, it can’t hold you either.

The power of life is that, in Christ, it overcomes death.

We see this illustrated in nature, we see this explained in Scripture, and it is our destiny!
