Where did everybody go?

When Jesus taught the people that He is the bread of life, many, maybe most of those following him left.  They deserted Him because He taught them that He was the very sustenance of life, and He used an example that was a tough one to grasp:

Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

(John 6:53)

Of course, He was not speaking literally, He was using this as a metaphor; unless we take Him into us, we have no life for He is the very essence of spiritual (eternal) life.  So people deserted Him: They just didn’t want to hear such things.

(See The Bread of Life for a more complete explanation.)

How do we react when we read from the Bible that we are to put our lives aside to follow Jesus?  Are we willing to put “self” aside?  Do we desert Him?

These are the questions that decide the fate of Mankind.

It sounds tough; it may sound crazy to some, but the reward is huge!  Eternal life, inner peace, joy and satisfaction of a kind that this poor old world can’t comprehend.  What will we do in times of trial; will we follow Him or desert Him?
