Coming Home

Have you ever been away for a long period time, away from everything familiar?

It’s exciting at first; everything is new… You see things you’ve never seen before, maybe you hear languages you’ve never heard before…

The people dress differently, the food is all new to you and you want to remember every little detail.  In the course of all this excitement, you also feel a little uneasy because there is little that seems “normal” and the excitement slowly turns to general unease.  Then the unease turns slowly into fatigue, and fatigue slowly turns into a desire to go home.

When you finally return to familiar territory and home, everything is right again.  In my case, returning home always gives me a much greater appreciation of everything that I usually take for granted.  Of course, that is not necessarily to say that I didn’t enjoy travelling, but there’s just something about going home…

Sometimes we stray from our walk with our Lord.  It might seem exciting at first, but that usually wears off until we are just ill at ease and fatigued…  Isn’t it great to return home where we belong?
